Event Details

Alan Johnson is a political heavyweight who’s seen seismic shifts in the Labour party first in his time as trade unionist then in government, where he was Home Secretary, Education Secretary and Deputy Chancellor of the Exchequer in both Blair and Brown governments . Since then, he’s won a swathe of prizes including the Orwell Prize and the Royal Society of Literature Ondaatje Prize for his fascinating trilogy of memoirs: This Boy, Please Mr Postman and The Long and Winding Road. His latest, In My Life, a Music Memoir, chronicles his love of the music that shaped him. Guardian columnist Suzanne Moore talks to him about his life as a politician, where next for the left and his love for Bowie and the Beatles.
